What a fun day we have had. We started the day at 5:30am. We left the house at 6:30 and headed for a rally downtown at the Jacksonville Landing to see our next Vice President, Sarah Palin. We stood in line for over an hour before our line started moving to get in
.
Steven and Stacy got there and found us about 8:30. Stacy inquired about special seating for elected officials and found out that there was such a thing and so we were escorted through the crowds right up front of the podium where the quests were to speak. After hearing from Gov. Crist and Senator Mel Martinez, Sarah was introduced. She was great and her speech was just as good as she always gives. She is just a classy, charming lady that seems so down to earth and personable. I was so close to her that I could notice who she went to after her speech. She saw some Down Syndrome children down in front of me and she made her way to them to talk and sign their papers. While she was doing that she called one of the security men over to her and asked him to bring a couple to her that she had noticed in the crowd. I looked over to them as she pointed them out and they were holding a sign that said, “Today’s our wedding anniversary and we would like to meet you.” He went to them, motioned for them to come with him and when they got to her, she hugged them, talked a little and then posed for pictures. She proceeded to sign and greet all around the crowd front.
Some other signs we saw that were good were, “Superman wears Sarah Palin Pajamas” and “Jews for Sarah Palin—Go Esther” and of course “ Read my lipstick”
We hung around until she and Gov. Crist left and found out that Steven and Stacy had found a way to get closer to them and got their autographs. I was trying a squeeze through to get a shirt signed for our Pastor’s wife but the crowd was so tight I couldn't get through.
We had lunch there at The Landing and left very happy and satisfied that we had done something we had never done before and had experienced such an exciting Vice Presidential event/rally and can now say that we were a part of history.
